Centenary Celebration Events 2020

The Captains' Welcome

2020 is a very special year at Prestbury, representing our centenary year, and we are delighted to welcome our members, members’ families, and guests along to help us celebrate this milestone.

The Centenary Celebration Events brochure (available in the clubhouse) will hopefully give you a flavour of what is planned throughout 2020 and allow you to hold the dates on events that you would like to attend. We have tried to cater for a wide range of members and have hopefully succeeded with something happening each month starting with our raising of the centenary flag in February followed by a celebratory glass of fizz and complimentary canapes.

Our majors, members fireworks evening and opens will continue as normal, but we will obviously badge them under our centenary banner. What we have outlined in the brochure are the new events, both social and golfing that are in the process of being finalised.

The course has always and will continue in 2020, to be our main priority so that we can be proud to welcome guests and visitors to Prestbury Golf club.

So, on behalf of ourselves and the centenary committee we invite you to join us in our celebrations!

Our Centenary Events

Here are our centenary events to help us celebrate 2020 in style. These are in addition to all the regular annual events and competitions that we already enjoy. For our members, we have arranged four centenary trophy competitions and a triangular set of mixed matches against local clubs Eaton and Sandiway who are also celebrating their centenary year.

2020 also sees us host a number of external competitions at Prestbury, namely Cheshire men vs Yorkshire, England Golf U14’s Reid Trophy and the Cheshire Ladies Centenary Rose bowl.

And finally, for all the members and families, we have several social events planned that we hope you will attend. These include the raising of the centenary flag to mark the start of our celebrations, a summer BBQ and entertainment for all the family, a centenary ball and our bonfire night fireworks to end the year with a bang!

Our Centenary Book

As a keep sake of our centenary year we are in the process of developing our centenary book which will be presented to each member at the end of 2020.

The book covers some of our amazing heritage from how Prestbury began its life. Developing over several years in the early 1920s to form both a prestigious club and an excellent course, whose quality has held it in good stead to this day. It has needed very little alteration in those years, and our club goes into its 101st year in superb condition, a real testament to our green staff and members.

That so little of the original design has changed over the years says a great deal for the pedigree of Harry Colt’s design. Colt took a brilliant piece of land on which to lay out his exemplary course with no two holes alike and the challenge of playing a round remains ever varied.

The book will also include some pictures of our year-long celebrations and will hopefully serve as a reminder of our varied celebrations throughout the year.
